Information for Children
Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that every child has a right to be protected from “all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s), or any other person who has care of the child.”
Ensuring that a child grows up in a safe environment and enabling them to reach their full potential is a vital social goal, and safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility. As a child or young person, you have the right to live in an environment in which you are safe and protected from harm. The adults in your life, from your parents or guardians, to your teachers, doctors, and other professionals, have a responsibility to make sure that you are kept safe and well.
